Bass Fishing: Return Of The Lipless Crankbait

Watching the Bassmaster Classic it is apparent that under diverse and changing conditions the lipless crankbait is still a quality bass fishing lure. The weather was cold then warming, the water level was high, but got lowered over night between day 1 of the tournament and day 2. However, the top three pros stuck with the lipless and at the end of day 2 only 5 ounces separated them.

The versatility and bass fishing catch ability was never more evident. I did notice that they did switch out hooks on the lure and were using a 2/0 treble hook with widespread barbs. This is a great bass fishing tip to remember when the bass are short hitting your lure, in other words it helps grab the fish better than the standard issue hooks that normally come on the bait.

It will be interesting to see if Day 3 provided the same success or not, but a few lipless crankbaits is definitely something every bass fisherman should have in his tackle box. They will work in all sorts of conditions albeit cold weather, bluebird skies or any water condition. Don’t forget to give them a try the next your fishing success slows down.
